Nadat cyclone Nathan weer terug is gegaan naar de Koraalzee dachten we dat deze zou verdwijnen, echter hij is aangesterkt als een categorie 3 cyclone. Een categorie 5 wordt niet uitgesloten voordat Nathan morgenvroeg om ca 4.00 uur aan land komt. Wij zijn uit voorzorg een stuk terug naar het zuiden gereden en zitten niet in de gevarenzone volgens de voorspelling:
Tropical Cyclone Nathan: Category five system 'cannot be ruled out', Bureau of Meteorology says
A category five Tropical Cyclone Nathan "cannot be ruled out" the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) says, as favourable conditions could lead to more periods of rapid intensification prior to landfall.
Currently a category three cyclone, Nathan is returning to far north Queensland, having moved away from the region after forming in the Coral Sea nine days ago.
In the BoM's latest forecast issued at 11:00am, Nathan was more than 245 kilometres east of Cape Flattery and moving towards the coast at 11 kilometres per hour.
The core of Nathan, described as "very destructive", could reach maximum wind gusts of 260 kilometres per hour."
